With the sun being up so long, I have a hard time staying asleep. I'm
sure exhaustion will cure that eventually. It wasn't raining so I
loaded the bike early and rode to a local Tim Horton's for a
breakfast. While there, I met two couples from the US with a man that
also teaches MSF classes. We chatted about bikes and riding and they
were quite nice. As I loaded up, another man came to see me that was
from Anchorage and we talked about the bike and travel. I've come to
love Tim Horton's just for the conversations I have there.
I rode south toward Skagway, AK. This involves going over the White
Pass. With the rain, the mountains were quite clouded over. I also
rode through some snow.
Skagway itself is very much a touristy town. It has a train that
travels over the White Pass to Whitehorse. There are lots of shops
catering to tourists. I went to visit the Klondike Gold Rush Nat'l
Park. Lots of miners started there and they had a nice vc related to
that.
I stayed about an hour and then headed back to Whitehorse. The Canada
customs line was very long as I got to it but it was mostly tourist
buses and RVs and fortunately, they had a different line than I did.
I moved to a place second in line and was through the line in about 5
minutes.
I got back to Whitehorse about 12:30 PM. I did a quick food shopping
and then headed towards Anchorage.
The ride to Haines Jct was still in the rain but as I turned north,
the ride changed to partly cloudy. The road also became dramatically
rougher. There were huge frost heaves and long, long areas of
construction. Near Kluane Lake, I was moved to the front of a line
behind a pilot car that carried over 7 km of wet clay road. It was
slippery and not much fun.
As I moved closer to the Canada-Alaska border, the road was the worst
I've been on. I had to slow and ride over lots and lots of mounded
roads. RVs were going 25mph.
I never found a good spot to stop for the night so I ended up riding
until 9 PM local time into Tok, AK. The sun stayed up until well
after 10PM.

Cool,
I've got something to read. I had a heck of a time resetting my password so I could log in.
Todd,
I hope your trip is going well. I'll comment again once I've gone back and read your previous posts.

Hi Todd!
Just wanted to say hi and that your blog is very fun for me to read, as I sit in boring MA, where the most exciting wildlife I see is the occasional turkey...
Be safe!!
