Anchorage with Ruth

7/6/07
Of all things, Ruth awoke early. That is unusual for her but because
of the 4 hour time difference, she did. We loaded the bike and headed
to Anchorage about 6 AM.
We found a Denny's in Anchorage and stayed there until about 8:30 and
then rode over to the Alaskan Native Museum. Our guide for the one
hour "short" tour was Kyle Roberts. Kyle's mother was some type of
Alaskan native while his father was Texan. The center is set up with
the different cultures. Kyle told us various things as we walked
around a lake but there were different types of houses showing how the
people in different parts of Alaska lived. Inside the huts were
teenagers from those cultures that would tell us about their way of
life. It was an AWESOME site to visit.
Then we rode to Alaska Rider for Ruth to pick up her bike. They had
it parked outside and Monkey greeted here by name while we parked.
The owner, Phil also came and introduced himself. Monkey went through
the rental contract and the bike and even made her ride it a little
before he let her go.
We headed to the Public Lands building to watch the movie "A Gathering
of Bears". This movie is about the human bear interactions at MacNeil
Falls and is a great bear watching video.
Ruth made me walk to the Anchorage Penney's where we met Allen Perez
and Ruth and Allen had a picture together.
We went for a reindeer sausage. WHile in line, a drunk man tried to
get a sausage but didn't have enough money so Ruth and I paid for him
to get a hot dog.
From there, we went to an REI for Ruth to get some gaiter's in case of
rain and then went to the Alaskan Museum of History and Art. This
museum showed lots of native art and told about the different cultures
in a different way than the Native Cultural Center did. They
complemented each other well.
We then headed back to Roger's. We showered and then Mike Blevins and
Ted ??? showed up. Mary Ellen made another barbecue and we ate and
chatted until about 9 PM. Then, Roger and Dave started changing the
rear tire on Dave's KLR while Ruth and I chattted with him.
Ruth made Mary Ellen take a picture of us in the sunshine at 10 PM.
We retired about 10:30 so we could rise early and pack for a trip
toward Denali today...

Enjoy reading your log.

Mom is planning to bring Paul home from the hospital tomorrow a.m. He had a pretty rough day on Friday . . .doing much better.

I'll take my laptop to the house tomorrow so Paul can read your logs and see your photos.

Have a safe trip. God bless.
